Grateful and Inspired to Continue Helping Customers Reach Their Cable Assembly Goals
Fourstar’s recent 30th anniversary event was every bit the celebration we wanted it to be. We were thrilled to reminisce with old friends and colleagues and recognize our many long-standing, dedicated employees. We want to offer a special recognition to some of our earliest employees: Juvenalia Chaves (our very first employee 30 years ago—still with us today!) and her sister, who started within months of her, Nubelia Pimentel; along with Maria Tavares, Luis Janeiro, Ermelinda Martins, Marcia Kos, and Nelson Medeiros—all who have been here over 20 years. We thoroughly recognize that we would not be standing here as a fully integrated interconnect content solutions provider without the diligent contributions of everyone towards our success—some of which was hard fought through some tough, lean times.
Partnerships that Work
Frank Flynn, President of Sager Electronics, spoke at length about the tenure and circumstance of the relationship, not only between the two companies, but of the human connection forged all these years. Frank and Sage Electronics have supported us in every one of the 30 years we have been in business, and he surprised us with the presentation of a beautiful crystal plaque commemorating our loyal partnership. Dale DelVecchio, District Manager–Northeast, at Heilind Electronics, offered more insights about what it takes to have an open and transparent partnership like the one Heilind has with Fourstar. He and his colleagues from Heilind presented us with a crystal decanter, inscribed with sentiments that wish us further success. State Representative Kate Hogan from Massachusetts 3rd Middlesex District presented Fourstar with a citation commending us for a successful 30 years in business.
MassMEP Resources and Guidance
MassMEP (Manufacturing Extension Partnership) is an organization dedicated to helping Massachusetts manufacturers grow. This organization will either help companies discover opportunities for growth or guide companies towards realizing their goals once they have identified them on their own. MassMEP was an integral driver of the full implementation of lean elements into all aspects of our cable assembly, wire harnessing, box build, and overall interconnect manufacturing operation. Jim Gusha helped secure the grant funding and Kevin Smith, both with MassMEP, worked very closely with Tom Barczak, Fourstar’s Vice President of Operations, to ensure that the full transition to a lean manufacturing operation was successful.
We were pleased to hear Kevin Smith declare that the transformation of our facility “defines a sea change.” He and Jim Gusha commented that they often are poised to help businesses implement these changes, but rarely, due to the limited depth of resources within organizations, see such a dedicated and complete adoption of lean practices company-wide. They credit Tom’s expertise and perseverance with getting us here—and Tom credits the entire team around him with bringing this lean manufacturing facility to scale so efficiently.
Better to Give …
As honored as we were to receive—we also are always happy to give back. As part of our employee matching funds program, we were proud to hand a check to a representative from a local charity that supports cancer research. In keeping with community outreach and our social responsibility initiatives, we also kicked off our Tesla charging station program as part of this anniversary event.
Tesla Charging Station … It’s On!
Fourstar has two charging stations—open to anyone who needs to charge a car (that is compatible with these chargers). We are registered on Plugshare—available to access online or through a cellphone app. The app is a great way to have all the information at your fingertips while on the road—and it allows you to plug in your car specs and requirements to show you where you can find a compatible charging station. The charging is free to the public, and free WiFi is available while charging. (“Tesla-Charger” is the network; no password required.) As well, if you are charging during business hours, you are welcome to use the bathrooms. We’ll be sharing more information about the Tesla charging stations in an upcoming blog, so look for that soon!
Grateful and Inspired
Once again, we want to thank everyone—from our dedicated staff to loyal customers and suppliers—without whom we would not be celebrating this milestone. We are proud of the friendships we have made along the way. As two former Fourstar employees, Jerry Treem and Rich McIlvene, spoke to the group assembled for the celebration about their time at Fourstar and how it was foundational as they furthered their careers, we were all reminded how the model of operating with a larger sense of community and social responsibility fuels shared commitment and lasting meaning to all our relationships. It was a day to feel proud of what we’ve built, and are inspired to keep doing more ... within the interconnect industry and for the world at large.
Our tagline, “Finding a Better Way,” applies to all aspects of our interconnect solutions business, impacting our growth … and yours. We’ll be here, happy to help you with all your cable assembly, box build, time-to-market, design for manufacturing, and new product introduction needs. Contact us when you’re ready to find a better way.
