Fourstar Receives a Massachusetts Workforce Training Grant to Sponsor its Sustainability Training Program

Earlier this year, as part of its sustainability program, Fourstar Connections applied for the Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund grant to procure funding to conduct a training program on supply chain sustainability. We are very proud to announce that this first-of-its-kind grant request has been approved.

This project is funded by a Workforce Training Fund grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The grant program is administered by Commonwealth Corporation.

The MVP Sustainable Supply Chain Program

The MVP Sustainability Supply Chain Program aims to help companies with the new disclosures around conflict minerals and labor rights violations. Other areas of focus are on disclosures to the Carbon Disclosure Project, the identification of sustainability and intangible value driver baselines, and the creation of communication channels about the company’s sustainability efforts to stakeholders and potential investors. The program is designed to create more sustainable, profitable, and low-risk businesses, and empower them to help solve some of our human, environmental, and societal challenges. It also builds stronger community ties among businesses that have the common goal of being sustainable.

The MVP Supply Chain Process

The MVP Supply Chain Program consists of completing a five-step process:

Step 1

Sustainability Education and Training: Overview of Sustainability Issues and Impacts, Intangible Risk and Value Drivers, and Business Development Opportunities

Step 2

Establishment of Sustainability Baselines: MVP Sustainability Survey and formal identification of Fourstar’s KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals)

Step 3

Disclosure to the Carbon Disclosure Project: material risk and performance drivers, i.e. climate change, natural resource intensity, carbon, water, and supply chain questionnaire

Step 4

Conflict Mineral Reporting: requested disclosures and reporting infrastructure for material risk and performance drivers, i.e. conflict minerals, forced labor, and human trafficking

Step 5

Benchmarking, ROI and the Sustainability and Business Stewardship Report: establish benchmarks and tracking of outcomes utilizing the ROI Workbook; create a sustainability report to communicate all sustainability, collaboration, and impacts to all stakeholders

Efforts Are Underway!

Fourstar has already implemented several sustainability initiatives, such as:

  • MVP Wellness Program: Surveys, workshops, and seminars are conducted to help employees combat stress and improve their mental and physical health.
  • De-Stress Room: A special room has been created on the Fourstar premises, which is a quiet space for employees to visit during the workday. It includes two massage chairs, a beautiful and relaxing water fountain, and a resource area where supportive, educational literature, and a variety of health promoting resources—along with a computer—are available.
  • Tesla Charging Station Program: Two Tesla charging stations at Fourstar are open to anyone that needs to charge a car that is compatible with these chargers. People can find it on Plugshare; it is free and available 24/7.
  • MVP/HIP Investor 401(k) “Know What You Own” Education and Scoring Program: This is an education program designed to help employees better understand their 401(k) plan, investment choices, and how to create positive impact in the world through their 401(k) plan.
